When we hear ADA - the Americans with Disability Act, these words should remind us that the types of doors we work on play a very important role in the lives of the people that use them. In fact, the entire purpose of automatic doors is to improve the quality of life for all members of society.

There are two ANSI standards that cover these types of Low Energy Automatic Pedestrian Doors. The A156.19 is the standard for Low Energy swing doors and the A156.38 is the standard for low energy slide and fold doors.

All low energy doors must be activated with a knowing act device and must not use a sensor for activation. However, safety sensors may be installed on these doors to provide presence detection.

Also, it is important to remember that low energy doors must operate at half the speed and half the force of a full power door.

If you need AAADM certification or even just a refresher course please come to see us. We offer multiple classes throughout the year and look forward to seeing you soon.
